Alex Yam noted that Singapore has long maintained a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption, while upholding government effectiveness and public trust through sound institutions. In response to the challenges of an aging society and a low birth rate, Singapore has also actively promoted lifelong learning and skills training policies to help its people adapt to industrial transformation and future challenges. Chair Cheng remarked that Taiwan has much to learn from Singapore in addressing issues such as demographic change, talent development, and governance effectiveness. Chair Cheng also shared her views on Taiwan’s current political and economic situation. She noted that while Taiwan’s high-tech sector has performed strongly, traditional industries and the service sector continue to face considerable pressure, particularly tourism and related fields, which have been deeply affected by changes in the external environment. She emphasized that Taiwan should work to reduce the risk of conflict, safeguard regional peace, and pursue cross-strait and international dialogue on a steady and pragmatic basis in order to seek a sustainable path that serves Taiwan’s long-term development and security.
