Chair Cheng met today at the Party headquarters with Ms. Foo Teow Lee, the newly appointed Representative of Singapore to Taiwan. The two sides engaged in in-depth and candid discussions on cross-strait developments, regional dynamics, and the longstanding ties between their respective sides. Both agreed that peace and stability across the strait are not only vital to regional security, but also carry profound implications for global stability. Both sides agree that sustained dialogue at every level is therefore essential.
Representative Foo noted that Singapore and Taiwan share a unique and longstanding historical relationship. Since the foundation of mutual trust established during the era of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and former President Chiang Ching-kuo, bilateral cooperation has endured for decades. Chair Cheng also shared her experience leading a delegation to Singapore during her tenure as a legislator, where she actively promoted bilateral economic dialogue. These efforts later culminated in the signing of the Taiwan–Singapore Economic Partnership Agreement (ASTEP) in 2013, further deepening cooperation between the two sides.
Amid an increasingly complex and evolving international environment, Representative Foo underscored that maintaining peace across Strait is in the interest of the entire international community. She emphasized that dialogue and mutual understanding are key to stability, and that genuine understanding must be built upon exchanges at all levels and across generations. Chair Cheng expressed strong agreement, reiterating that cross-strait peace also requires the support and engagement of the international community. She stressed that the KMT is committed to pursuing a path distinct from confrontation and to actively working toward easing tensions across the strait.
Both sides expressed their hope to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the future, and to jointly contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
